Two very different pieces of ground make Vinarija Lipovac, worked since 2015: the slopes of Građani at around four hundred metres, where the white varieties Gigiac, Troika and Morava look over Lake Skadar, and the stone terraces of Zagarač, given to Vranac. The dry stone walls rise as high as nine metres, holding the day's heat and returning it to the vines at night. Some 23,000 vines feed a cellar that works in three registers, stainless steel, French oak and clay amphorae.
Gea ferments Morava and Gigiac together in terracotta amphorae after a sixty day maceration, an echo of the qvevri practice that UNESCO added to its list of intangible cultural heritage in 2011 and that the estate traces back to the eighth century BC. Tellus does the same for Vranac. Guests taste seven wines, and seven suites above the tasting room let the evening end where the wine began.
A seven-wine tasting is booked by telephone, allowing the house to plan the afternoon around each visit. Guests sit above the terraces, with Lake Skadar in the distance and the amphorae a few steps below in the cellar.
Seven suites with breakfast mean the evening need not end at the cellar door. A terrace at the heart of the vineyard accommodates dinner or a family celebration, and the rooms are a short walk from the table after the last glass is poured.
